When the local football team Bella Vista loses a deciding match the club is disbanded and their clubhouse becomes vacant. That is, until the shrewd Elisa takes it over and turns it into a brothel for transvestites. Her business is a great success, to the dismay of local residents. Local politician, factory owner and former director of the football club Patón Lerena decides to step in.

Sprankelende reconstructie van alle perikelen rond het leegstaande clubgebouw van een plaatselijke voetbalclub. Na een verloren wedstrijd en daaropvolgende rellen wordt FC Bella Vista opgeheven. Op een dag vestigt zich een bordeel voor travestieten in het gebouwtje, dit tot grote ergernis van de omwonenden. Alle betrokkenen geven hun versie van de feiten.

Verhaal over het leven, de natuur én voetbal. 15 jaar terug gebeurde er iets vreemds bij de voetbalfinale van de Copa Americana tussen Uruguay en Argentinië: een kwartier voor de wedstrijd gaf de coach, El Ingeniero, er de brui aan. Waarom is nooit opgehelderd. Dan krijgt een jonge journalist de kans hem te interviewen.

But as the strikes are on-going, he learns that his father has died and heads for Salto. In dealing with his dad’s business, he discovers some unpleasant surprises. Slowly, leftist Ariel is sucked into an existence he deeply detests.

Uruguay, 2002: de licht gehandicapte en traag sprekende student Ariel doet volop mee aan de stakingen die het land hebben platgelegd. Dan overlijdt zijn vader en moet Ariel terug naar huis om de zaken van zijn vader en de nalatenschap af te handelen. Tot zijn afgrijzen belandt hij in een wereld die hij als linkse student juist zo verfoeit.

Matto, a passionate marine biologist, goes to Brazil hoping to see dolphins, which he considers to be the most intelligent creatures on earth. Soon, he is joined by hitchhiking Martina. They form a strange pair: she sleepwalks, he goes so far as to lie down in the middle of the street in swim briefs just to make his point. In their behaviour, the similarities to animals are inevitable.

Het gedrag van veel dieren lijkt op dat van de mens. Of is het net andersom? Zeebioloog Matto reist naar Brazilië omdat hij dolfijnen wil zien. Onderweg pikt hij Martina op, die in Brazilië de wereld en zichzelf beter wil leren kennen. De twee hebben heel eigenaardige gewoontes en de vergelijking met de dieren dringt zich dan ook op.

30-something Patricia spends the nights alone in a lodging house on the rambla. She fears that she’ll stay single forever and is glued to her mobile just in case somebody calls. She often walks along the promenade with her boss, 40-something Jacqueline who runs a takeaway with her husband Juanca. Finally, there’s frail Ofelia, aged over eighty has no one left in the world and becomes increasingly more isolated.

Warme komedie over de ups-en-downs van Patricia, Jacqueline en Ofelia, drie heel verschillende vrouwen uit Montevideo. Dertiger Patricia heeft geen man, veertiger Jacqueline vreest voor huwelijk, terwijl tachtiger Ofelia niet meer naar buiten durft. En ze wandelt juist zo graag over de ‘rambla’, de mooie promenade van Montevideo, net als Patricia en Jacqueline.
